Family evacuation plan and grab bag

Separate portable essentials from home reserves and agree who does what.

Agree a destination and fallback

Before an emergency, discuss where you can go, how you will travel and who can help. Record a local meeting point and another outside the area. Confirm arrangements for children, pets and people needing accessible transport.

Pack a manageable share

Home water and food totals are not carrying targets. Select portable portions, essential documents, personal supplies, light and communication tools. Check whether the chosen bags can actually be carried. A shopping list alone does not establish a safe route.

Follow the actual incident

Official instructions decide whether to leave or shelter for the particular emergency. Do not delay a directed evacuation to finish the list. When escaping a house fire, leave belongings behind. Keep paper contacts and check that everyone knows the plan.
